West Sussex County Council is seeking a proactive and experienced HR Advisor to join our Human Resources & Organisational Change team on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave. This is a fantastic opportunity to support vital HR functions in a dynamic, people-focused environment.

About the Role:

As an HR Advisor, you will work alongside HR Senior Business Partners and HR Business Partners to implement Directorate/Service People Plans. You'll be responsible for providing comprehensive generalist HR advice across key employee relations issues such as:

  • Sickness absence

  • Performance management

  • Grievance and disciplinary procedures

  • Bullying and harassment

  • Recruitment and onboarding

This role involves acting as a first point of contact for managers and employees for day-to-day HR queries, ensuring advice aligns with policy, employment law, and best practice.

What We're Looking For:

We're looking for someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who can deliver professional and commercially focused HR advice. You'll be confident working independently and collaboratively, with the ability to escalate more complex cases to senior HR colleagues where necessary.

Working Arrangements:
  • Hybrid working model: Mainly remote with monthly team meetings at County Hall

  • On-site visits: 2-3 days per week at local schools may be required
