Job Description:

We are looking for a Maintenance Engineer to join our team and help maintain the efficiency and safety of our facilities. The successful candidate will work closely with our existing engineer and report to the Facilities Manager. The role involves routine maintenance tasks, responding to equipment breakdowns, and ensuring that all machinery and equipment are in good working order. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Routine Maintenance:

- Conduct routine inspections of machinery and equipment to identify and resolve any issues before they escalate.

- Perform preventive maintenance tasks according to established schedules to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.

- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities.

  • Equipment Repairs:

- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

- Identify faulty components and implement solutions to rectify problems efficiently.

- Perform equipment repairs in a timely manner to minimize disruption to operations.

  • Emergency Response:

- Provide prompt response to equipment breakdowns, ensuring minimal downtime.

- Work on-call as needed to address urgent maintenance issues outside of regular working hours.

- Diagnose the cause of breakdowns and implement effective solutions to restore equipment to operational status.

  • Health and Safety:

- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.

- Identify potential safety hazards and take appropriate measures to address them.

- Promote a culture of safety and compliance among the maintenance team.

  • Continuous Improvement:

- Identify opportunities for process and equipment improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

- Participate in the development and implementation of new maintenance procedures and protocols.

  • Documentation and Reporting:

- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and parts inventory.

- Prepare reports on equipment status, maintenance activities, and any issues encountered.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Engineer or similar role, preferably in a manufacturing or logistics environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and engineering drawings.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Flexibility to work a 37-hour week based across 7 working days.
  • Availability for overtime, with compensation at 1.5x the hourly rate.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotation for emergency breakdowns.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Engineering.
  • Experience with conveyor systems, packaging machinery, and other industrial equipment.
  • Knowledge of PLC systems and fault finding.
  • Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) is advantageous.

Working Hours:

  • 37 hours per week based across 7 working days.

Overtime:

  • Any overtime will be paid at 1.5x the hourly rate.
