Aspiring Speech and Language Therapist - Learning Support Assistant - Special Needs - SEN - SALT - ASD - Surrey

Look no further, as we have a Special Educational Needs (SEN) School in Leatherhead for children with additional learning needs. Most children have speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), and an Autism diagnosis.

This school are looking for a passionate and committed Aspiring Speech and Language Therapist to work as a SEN Learning Support Assistant in their school for children aged 4-16. You will be supporting a small class of 7-10 students, working in partnership with the school's teaching staff, therapists and support staff team to deliver specific interventions that aim to boost students' learning, development and language acquisition.

As an Aspiring Speech and Language Therapist, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a qualified Speech and Language Therapists (SALT), and deliver interventions to children with speech, language and communicational needs both in a small group and 1:1. You will make a real difference to the lives of the children, gaining vital experience which will enable you to kick-start your future career as a Speech and Language Therapist.

Job role and responsibilities of Aspiring Speech and Language Therapist:

  • Assist the class teacher in providing the learning experience of students
  • Behaviour and pastoral support
  • Take an active role in forward planning with therapists
  • Ability to build robust and effective relationships with students
  • Practical approach to meet the individual needs of students
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Caring, compassionate, and a good listener
  • Willing to work 1:1 and in small groups with students
  • Ensure safeguarding of students, in line with procedures
  • Personal care support
  • Attend staff meetings and complete appropriate CPD

Experience is not required, but candidates should demonstrate an interest in working with children with SEN.
