Astute's Power team is partnering with an independent Waste to Energy plant located in the West Midlands. This plant is capable of processing ~315ktpa of waste per year, which in turn produces around 17mw of power for the local community. The plant also has a small district heating scheme attached for excess heat to be repurposed for the area.

As an Engineering Manager, you'll be responsible for the management of the Engineering & Maintenance department including budget responsibility to achieve maximum plant availability. This role covers all compliance with relevant legislation, plant maintenance, plant performance and the delivery of capital & revenue projects.

Responsibilities and duties:
As the Engineering Manager you will be:
  • Manage and run the Engineering department comprising of multi skilled engineers and technicians.
  • Management of the sites CMMS system implementing planned preventative maintenance requirements whilst ensuring safe and efficient plant operation.
  • Plan, manage and execute outage / shutdowns working closely with the site engineers.
  • Manage and control maintenance sub-contractors.
  • Manage the department's budget and report on budget performance in line with accounting practices.
  • Ensuring all activities are carried out to the highest standard of health and safety.
  • Developing the sites maintenance & safety procedures including liaising with the EPC Warranty Team to ensure compliance.
  • Take an active part in the plant mobilisation and commissioning activities including staff recruitment and training.



Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
  • HND/HNC or above, in a relevant Engineering discipline, preferable Mechanical (for PSSR, Boiler issues)
  • H&S qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSH with knowledge of Environmental Permits and Safe Working Environments
  • Apprentice trained



Personal skills
The Shift Technician role would suit someone who has:
  • At least five years Supervisory/Management in a maintenance/engineering role on a Power Station. This can include Energy from Waste, CCGT, Coal, Cogeneration or Biomass
  • Familiar with budget & contract management
  • Ideally you will have extensive experience of hands on maintenance in power generation, preferably with solid knowledge of pressure parts systems, rotating plant, steam plant and boilers
  • Experience of managing budgets and in the training and development of staff
  • Experienced in managing maintenance teams, resource planning etc
