Reed Crawley are partnered with a key client based in Crawley seeking a General Maintenance Operative to contribute to an effective and efficient premises & facilities service, focusing on both reactive and proactive general maintenance tasks. This role is essential in ensuring a safe and compliant working environment for colleagues and visitors, in line with regulatory and company policies. The ideal candidate will actively participate in the overall performance and development of the Premises & Facilities function.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Supervise third-party contractors and ensure completion of work, reporting any issues to the Facilities Coordinator or Head of Workplace.
  • Collaborate on various facilities projects and obtain quotations from suppliers, maintaining a cost-efficient approach.
  • Review third-party Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Maintain external areas of the premises, with a focus on autumn and winter months.
  • Conduct weekly/monthly health & safety checks and complete specific maintenance tasks such as cleaning grease filters and generator tests.
  • Deliver, install, and collect home working equipment as required.
  • Provide proactive gritting support during winter and ensure grit bins are stocked.
  • Perform basic office maintenance, furniture repairs, and light touch fabric repairs.
  • Manage in-house premises & facilities Service Desk tickets, providing regular updates.
  • Set up and reset Collaboration Rooms and assist with internal office moves.
  • Maintain a strong focus on Health & Safety and adhere to guidelines.
  • Flexibility to work out of hours and weekends as needed, and participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Lead maintenance tasks in a specific area of expertise (e.g., joinery, electrical, plumbing).

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a corporate Facilities or Building Services environment.
  • Multi-skilled in commercial maintenance with knowledge of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM).
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
  • Computer literate with basic MS Office and Excel skills.
  • Strong awareness of health & safety and statutory regulations.
  • Minimum education of GCSE level or equivalent.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach and the ability to prioritise effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A co-operative “can-do” attitude and the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
