We are working alongside a leading Main Contractor with a proven track record of delivering high-quality projects across various sectors. They are currently on the search for a Design Manager to join the team, focusing on a large commercial scheme in the North West.

Job Description: As a Design Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the design process for major commercial projects, ensuring that designs meet client requirements and regulatory standards. You will coordinate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver innovative and practical design solutions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design Coordination: Manage and coordinate the design process from initial concept through to project completion, ensuring designs meet all client and project requirements.
  • Stakeholder Management: Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure effective communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with relevant regulations, standards, and codes of practice.
  • Quality Control: Review and critique design drawings, specifications, and documentation to ensure accuracy and feasibility.
  • Project Management: Develop and manage design schedules, ensuring timely delivery of design milestones.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and resolve design-related issues promptly, ensuring minimal impact on project timelines and budgets.
  • Value Engineering: Propose cost-effective design solutions without compromising on quality or performance.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records of design changes, approvals, and other project-related documentation.
  • Budget Management: Monitor design costs and work within budget constraints, providing regular financial updates to senior management.
  • Innovation: Stay updated with the latest industry trends and innovations to incorporate best practices into the design process.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Design Manager, preferably with a main contractor.
  • Strong knowledge of construction design processes, building regulations, and standards.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and project management tools.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Relevant qualifications in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Experience with large commercial schemes is highly desirable.
