Astute Recruitment are partnering with a well-established and local business based in the heart of Derby to help find a dynamic and ambitious Assistant Accountant to join their finance team.

Reporting to the Regional Accountant your primary responsibility will be assisting and maintaining financial control and ensuring the orderly retention of all supporting documentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute, advise, and assist in all tasks within the accounting department
  • Aid in the preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Verify the of finance logs and then reconcile them with the nominal ledger
  • Ensure accounts information is accurate and up to date
  • Support in annual stock takes
  • Reconcile monthly stock checks
  • Manage daily banking and reconcile bank statements
  • Support data entry into the computer system
  • Assist in Annual Budget preparation and submission
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of 14-day and month-end forecasts
  • Verify profits against profit and loss accounts
  • Assist in month and year-end close
  • Assist with quarterly VAT returns
  • Further ad hoc duties when required

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience in a similar position
  • Proficient in all Microsoft packages, especially Excel
  • Strong communicator with good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines
  • Ability to work with autonomy when required
  • Acute attention to detail

Benefits and hours:

  • Salary up to £30,000 depending on experience
  • Working hours of 8:30am until 5:30pm
  • 22 days holidays plus bank holidays which rise to 24 days after 2 years
