We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director to lead our client company. The business is seeking an experienced Engineering SME Director who is seeking the next step into a Managing Director Role. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving growth and sales, overseeing all aspects of the business both domestically and internationally, engage and connect with the global group business network and maintain their position as a market leader. Our client will offer significant support in the transition of the person into the MD role.

The Managing Director will play a pivotal role in not only controlling and overseeing all facets of operations, people, and projects but also in charting the course for the overall success of the business. This leadership position requires a seasoned strategist capable of aligning the company with its vision, mission, and long-term goals. The hiring of a Managing Director is pivotal to navigating this transformative period and ensuring sustained success in an ever-evolving business landscape. The MD will be the driving force behind the company's trajectory, ensuring its sustained success and competitive positioning in the market.

Expertise Required

  • Driving operational improvements, whilst ensuring commercial aspects remain in focus.
  • Development of reporting tools to monitor the ongoing performance of the company.
  • Maintaining and monitoring budgets to make sure that the business operates efficiently from a financial perspective.
  • Develop further routes to market through the wider Group's global network and client base.
  • Guiding and maintaining the performance of the company.
  • Supervising executives and managers and providing leadership and motivation as required.
  • Establishing relationships with industry and marketing experts, thought leadership through publication and building the company public profile through networking, conferences, and external engagements.
  • Preparing long-term and short-term goals and company objectives.
  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to the company, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive business strategies to drive growth, profitability, and market expansion.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team to achieve company objectives.
  • Possess a strong background in manufacturing operations, with the ability to optimise production processes, enhance efficiency, and ensure product quality.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations to streamline processes, reduce costs, and increase productivity.
  • Take a hands-on approach to sales and marketing efforts, employing innovative strategies to increase market share and revenue.
  • Utilise market research and analysis to identify emerging trends, customer needs, and competitive dynamics.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and execute effective marketing campaigns, product launches, and promotional activities.
  • Actively engage with all aspects of the business both in the UK and globally, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, customers, and partners.
  • Lead international expansion efforts, identifying new market opportunities and establishing strategic partnerships to drive growth.
  • Willingness to travel internationally as required to support business objectives, attend industry events, and meet with clients and partners.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • A track record in a senior leadership role within the manufacturing industry.
  • A successful and proven track record of profitably growing a manufacturing/engineering business, while having full P&L responsibility.
  • Experience of working at a senior level within a SME engineering or manufacturing organisation.
  • Possess a marketeer's strategic approach, demonstrating proficiency in directly engaging with both new and existing clients, alongside the capability to collaborate effectively with global government trade bodies and advisors.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, supply chain and quality control systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive sales growth and market expansion through strategic planning.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Willingness to travel internationally as required.
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, business development, and financial management.
  • Demonstrated expertise in driving EBITDA improvement through strategic initiatives and operational enhancements, showcasing a strong focus on financial performance.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams in the execution of strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with business goals and financial objectives.
  • Proven capability in managing complex business environments, with a focus on fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and performance improvement.
  • Proven ability to make strategic recommendations based on observation of market trends.
