Senior Infrastructure Engineer - Surrey or Hampshire / Hybrid / WFH

£60,000 to £65,000 + £4-5,000 oncall / overtime, plus bonus excellent benefits and growth potential (fantastic employer) / Surrey or Hampshire - albeit 1, possibly 2 days per week in the office

This role is a hybrid position and can be based in either their Dorking (Surrey) or Basingstoke (Hampshire) offices with the expectation of being in the office 4 - 6 times per month. The overall package is worth around £80-85k.

A leading financial services company are recruiting for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to take a lead position within their infrastructure team, with a requirement to have a strong grounding in Azure and a DevOps focus, as they are slowly moving their environment over to an infrastructure that supports Azure.

This is a great role working in a team where career progression is actively encouraged. Ideally you will possess core skills within Wintel / VMware technologies, have a DevOps appreciation and mindset. Any knowledge of Nutanix or the willingness to learn it as a new technology is well received.

The primary day to day work for the Senior Infrastructure Engineer / Azure / DevOps focus will consist of:

  • Individuals in the Senior Infrastructure Engineer position are responsible for designing system and infrastructure architectures spanning the whole range of hardware and software technologies in their designated field, using approved system engineering practices.
  • They will develop and maintain the high-level design plan for the overall logical and technical IT architecture.
  • They will provide technical leadership and consulting across the organisation, from strategic decision making to project level planning.
  • They will gain organisational commitment for all high-level Infrastructure plans and initiate and participate in projects to evaluate technologies and methods for implementing these plans.
  • They will work closely with decision makers throughout the organisation to identify,
  • recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective information processing and communication technologies.
  • They will benchmark, analyse, report on, and make recommendations for the improvement of the relevant IT Infrastructure and IT systems.
  • They will apply proven analytical and problem-solving skills to help validate, verify,
  • communicate, and resolve complex systems/software/networking/infrastructure applications and infrastructure issues.
  • They are responsible for planning, designing and analysing the organisation’s operating system(s), storage management, agents/instrumentation, systems management, security, network, web administration, database management, automation, and application technical stacks. Additionally, this position may require working knowledge of multiple computing/networking platforms (including physical, virtual, and cloud,) while ensuring high levels of data quality and availability.
  • They are also responsible for capacity planning, backup and restore process design, performance analysis, and developing data disaster recovery plans.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities for the Senior Infrastructure Engineer / Azure / DevOps role:

  • Designs, builds and deploys solutions across the relevant infrastructure technologies, including Humana’s Azure tenant.
  • Designs automation of infrastructure as a service and capabilities including virtual networks, virtual machines, cloud services, web sites, data services, IOT, etc.
  • Leads technical deployments that involve multiple IT teams and stakeholders.
  • Develops and enhances the orchestration and automation of cloud enablement tools.
  • Designs a highly scalable and redundant physical or virtual infrastructure to support the company’s future growth.
  • Provides innovative suggestions for complex implementation solutions.
  • Creates documentation and implementation plans to allow support teams to build and manage the relevant environment.
  • Develops and manages an infrastructure capacity plan.

Required Skillset for the Senior Infrastructure Engineer / Azure / DevOps focus position:

  • Possess significantly developed hands-on technical expertise in multiple key operating systems or subsystem areas.
  • Strong Azure/Cloud exposure, with a DevOps mindset and focus.
  • Have some experience in creating as well as using scripting and other tools to automate routine tasks - Ability to automate manual tasks using scripting languages (e.g. shell, python, perl, bash).
  • Drive resolution of technical problems in a methodical and professional manner.
  • Effectively summarise and clearly communicate software/hardware problems involving multiple support teams.
  • Demonstrable related work experience (Wintel, VMWare) - any experience with Nutanix Converged technologies, including Nutanix Acropolis Hypervisor or AHV.
  • Windows OS Configuring & Trouble shooting 2016, 2019 and 2022 (nice to have).
  • VMware Virtualisation 6.5+.
  • AD / DNS / GPO configuration.
  • ITIL Framework grounding (Incident, Change, etc).
  • Any scripting knowledge is an advantage.
