Technical Design Engineering Manager

Day Shift - 7.30am - 4.00pm Monday - Friday
£55,000 - £65,000.00 per annum DOE + Overtime + Training Packages + 30 days holiday/xmas shutdown

At A&T Enclosures, based in Dudley, we have a new opportunity for an established Engineering Manager to join our expanding team.

Working to customer specification, we are looking to recruit an experienced Technical Design Engineering Manager to manage our internal team of Mechanical and/or Electrical Design Engineers. Our Engineers develop and design electrical enclosures to be manufactured by our innovative on-site technology.

The successful candidate will hold relevant experience within a similar industry, be strong willed, self disciplined and business focused - with the ability to develop and drive our Engineers through performance management and training and development practices.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

Distribution of work on a daily basis to the Engineering team. To ensure engineers are producing weekly target output hours.

To ensure that engineers designs are achieved to the correct quality within the specified timeframe

  • To set up standard designs and processes and make sure the engineers adhere to them
  • To understand and advise engineers on the companys tested products to BSEN61439 and certify these are compiled with either type test or design verification
  • To reduce mistakes out of engineering by using all the tools to get to the root cause and put in place corrective actions
  • To work with the sales and manufacturing teams to ensure that customer requirements have been met to the company standard
  • To chair daily meetings with the engineering team and schedule work in conjunction with the Production Planner
  • To develop and coach apprentices and new members of the team
  • To develop teamworking culture where each employee feels valued and understands how to fulfil both the business objectives and their personal objectives
  • To understand and develop the skills of the Engineering team through appraisal and performance management methods
  • To liaise effectively with the management team to fulfil the company objectives, reporting measured engineering performance
  • To ensure that the engineering team are properly trained to maximize the use of resources and improve efficiency, documenting abilities for transparency of skills
  • Monitoring employees performance, attendance, timekeeping and conduct
  • Implement and maintain a program of departmental continuous improvement and implement lean methods
  • Providing accurate reports to the management team at monthly meetings
  • Apply value engineering thinking to reduce costs and optimize output
The successful candidate should possess:
  • Strong people manager with excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Have an understanding of electrical engineering and LV switchgear
  • Experience working with electrical enclosures (desired but not essential)
  • Have an understanding of the enclosure design process
  • 2D and 3D software
  • Have experience working in a manufacturing / engineering environment
  • Proven success managing a mixed discipline team
  • Autodesk AutoCad (2d) a 2d Cad package
  • Hexagon Radan Rad-Draft a 2d Cad/Cam package
