Locum SEN & Education Lawyer – Predominantly Remote Working – 3 Months + - Up to £55 per hour umbrella – Home Counties

Venn Group’s specialist legal team are pleased to be recruiting for a Locum SEN & Education Lawyer to join an excellent Local Authority in the Home Counties area. This assignment will be for an initial period of 3 months pending further extension thereafter.

The organisation is ideally seeking someone to take on the position on a full-time basis, however candidates with part-time availability possessing relevant experience will be considered. The role also can be performed on a predominantly remote working basis.

The ideal candidate will be a Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive with Local Government experience with solid understanding of a wide range of SEND and Education matters including SEN Tribunals and School Appeals.

Duties may include:• Deal with all aspects of appeals to the SEND Tribunal, which includes drafting responses to appeals, instructing expert witnesses and conducting advocacy• Provide legal advice to the Local Authority and schools on Education Law matters such as school admissions and admission appeals, school exclusions and exclusion reviews, school attendance, school organisation, home-to-school transport and complaints• Provide legal advice and support to the Local Authority’s Special Educational Needs Assessment and Placement Service following the coming into force of Part 3 of the Children and Families Act 2014 and its sub-ordinate legislation• Review case papers and establishing the merits of cases and reviewing and complying with SENDIST Orders• Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to progress appeals and with the legal department where they have been instructed • Conduct regular advocacy in the First-Tier of the SEND Tribunal and dealt with Judicial ReviewsAn attractive hourly rate of up to £55 per hour umbrella is offered for this position dependent on experience.
