Our Water company client is seeking a Reservoir Safety Engineer to co-ordinate delivery of their Reservoir Act obligations across the Northumbrian Water and Essex/Suffolk Water regions.

The candidate will support Water Resources, Water Service planning, (NWL) in ensuring that our client fully complies with the Reservoir Act 1975.

Responsibilities

  • To co-ordinate delivery of NWG's Reservoirs Act obligations across the Northumbrian Water and Essex & Suffolk Water regions.
  • Advise of any potential or actual Reservoir Act compliance / dam safety issues.
  • Survey all company sites to ascertain registration status in accordance with the Reservoirs Act 1975 and manage any new registration.
  • Co-ordinate all deformation monitoring ensuring best value from contractors, ensuring all deformation monitoring reports are of excellent quality and are forward onto relevant supervising engineers and other external bodies.
  • Agree a programme of Section 12 examinations, best value through the use of a combination of in house and consultancy resource.
  • Complete Section 12 examinations as identified in the Section 12 programme, prepare statutory examination reports for each examination and submit to the EA (Enforcement Authority).
  • Ensure all Interest of Safety Items are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Support rural ops teams in planning activities (monitoring and maintenance) to ensure compliance with the Company's Reservoir Monitoring Procedures and the Flood and Water Management Act.
  • Support Asset Investment (and their consultants) and Water Supply teams in prioritising work schedules and in delivering interest of safety items, investigations and small / large capital works / schemes.
  • Based from different WTWs or NWL offices based on work with regular site visits to reservoirs and offices across the NWG region. Travel and work will be potentially split between all regions within NWG.
  • Provide expert technical support to the Water Resources Manager and Head of Water Strategy and to internal teams including but not limited to Water Supply, Asset Investment and Legal.
  • Advise of any potential or actual Reservoir Act compliance / dam safety issues.
  • Provide challenge where necessary to ensure leading reservoir safety.
  • Support the Strategic Planning team in the development and implementation of a long-term strategy for Dam and reservoir safety taking account of the Reservoirs Act and the Floods and Water Management Act.
  • Represent NWL at the UK Water Companies Reservoir Safety Manager Meeting, communicate developments / learning points to the Water Resources Manager and Head of Water Service Planning.
  • Provide and co-ordinate Reservoir Act Compliance training for NWG relevant employees as required.

Skills/experience/qualifications

  • Detailed working knowledge of Reservoirs Act 1975.
  • Detailed working knowledge of dam construction, monitoring and maintenance.
  • Clearly demonstrates an ability for creative thinking and problem solving.
  • Ability to build and manage relationships internally and externally.
  • Communicate, effectively, with internal and external bodies with regards to the safety and maintenance of reservoirs.
  • Self-motivated and ability to motivate others.
  • Ability to problem solve and demonstrate commercial acumen.
  • Excellent time management and planning skills.
  • Flexible, with ability to work to tight deadlines and re prioritise at short notice.
  • A member of the Supervising Engineers' Panel under the Reservoirs Act.
  • Proven track record as a qualified civil engineer managing contracts.
  • 5 years experience as a Reservoirs Act supervising engineer.
  • Experienced surveyor.
  • Member of the British Dam Society.
