My client are a specialist contractors with depots all across the UK. They are now seeking a Depot Manager for their Exeter site.
The Depot Manager will be responsible for managing and overseeing a team of between 10-15 contractors daily alongside the Depot Supervisor and ensuring that all works are completed to a high standard and signed off.
Industry experience is not essential as this can be trained but previous people/management/reporting experience is.
Salary for the role is between £47,000 and £52,000 depending on experience and days and hours of work are Monday to Friday between 7.30am to 5.30pm (open or closing shift to be discussed/agreed with the Supervisor).
Job Description
Managing and overseeing depot personnel, supervising depot operations and ensuring efficient operation on a day-to-day basis. Improving productivity and streamlining depot activities to maximise results and achieve peak performance levels.
Duties:
- Knowledge and implementation of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and Management of Health & Safety at Work Act 1990 and Environmental Protection Act 1990.
- Supervision of Technical, Surveyors, Installers and Administration Staff.
- Ensure compliance with all current codes of practice, for Health & Safety & Environmental and HR Disciplinary & Grievance Procedures.
- To arrange/carry out induction training for new employees.
- To promote and encourage and ensure all training is certified and recorded and analysed periodically.
- Where required ensure all local authorities are informed of project details.
- To plan/programme works and sequence of operations.
- Ensure the depot has internal competent personnel or access to group policy and procedures for a competent person to control and advise upon projects which require compliance.
- Ensure on site supervision is maintained using competent personnel.
- To ensure overall standards of workmanship and quality are met.
- Has a duty to observe employees under their control and be aware of any problems which may be evident in their behaviour, general well-being and alertness, or fitness to operate plant, equipment or drive a vehicle reporting such concerns, they may have to the Operations Manager.
- Ensure all routine monitoring, inspection and audit information is sent to the HR Group Services Department for maintaining records.
- To arrange/hold in the first week of each month a depot employee/management communications meeting and provide minutes following for those unable to attend with copies of minutes with signatures of those in attendance forwarded to Group Services Department.
- Hold or arrange through delegation regular toolbox talks/employee briefings for depot employees.
- Draw employee’s attention to check list boards.
- Ensure all sub-contractors fully understand their contractual arrangements.
- That sub-contractors are reviewed on a regular basis for compliance.
- That sub-contractors employ competent persons in the relevant roles.
- Assist group services department head office with reporting.
