We are seeking a dedicated Literacy Lead to join a growing secondary SEMH provision in Suffolk. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to enhance the English curriculum and support the school’s vision of high-quality education.

Day to day of the role:

  • Collaborate with the Headteacher to secure high-quality teaching, effective resource use, and improved standards of learning and achievement for all pupils.
  • Teach a range of subjects within the literacy framework to ensure the effective delivery of the school’s curriculum.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as identified by the Deputy Headteacher to ensure the curriculum is delivered effectively.
  • Lead the phonics and literacy strategy across all key stages.
  • Contribute to Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) reviews in consultation with the SENCO.
  • Implement the whole school reading policy.
  • Work alongside English and Key Stage 2 (KS2) teachers to ensure all pupils make the desired progress in literacy.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • A clear understanding of the school’s vision, aims, priorities, targets, and curriculum policies.
  • Knowledge of statutory curriculum requirements and assessment, recording, and reporting of pupils’ attainment and progress.
  • Awareness of high-quality teaching characteristics and strategies for improving and sustaining high teaching, learning, and achievement standards.
  • Understanding of management aspects including employment law, equal opportunities legislation, finance, and change management.
  • Familiarity with the code of practice for special educational needs and its implications for teaching and learning.
