The Role: As the Head of Computer Science, you will lead our vibrant Computer Science department, inspiring and supporting colleagues to deliver outstanding teaching and learning experiences. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing strategic leadership and vision for the Computer Science department, driving continuous improvement and innovation in teaching and learning.
  • Leading and managing a team of dedicated Computer Science teachers, supporting their professional development and fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
  • Planning and delivering engaging and challenging Computer Science lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and ideally Key Stage 5, ensuring the curriculum is stimulating, relevant, and responsive to the needs of students.
  • Monitoring and assessing student progress and attainment in Computer Science, implementing effective intervention strategies to support students' learning and achievement.
  • Developing and implementing rigorous assessment and tracking systems to monitor student progress and inform teaching and learning strategies.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of the Computer Science curriculum, resources, and assessment strategies, ensuring alignment with national standards and best practices.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the school to promote cross-curricular links and opportunities for interdisciplinary learning.
  • Engaging with parents, carers, and external stakeholders to promote the importance of Computer Science education and foster positive relationships within the school community.
  • Participating in extracurricular activities, events, and school initiatives to enrich the educational experience for students and promote a culture of excellence and achievement.

Requirements: The successful candidate will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant degree in Computer Science or a related subject.
  • Substantial experience teaching Computer Science at Key Stages 3, 4, and ideally Key Stage 5, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality teaching and learning experiences.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and lead a team of colleagues to achieve shared goals and objectives.
  • Excellent subject knowledge and a passion for Computer Science education, with the ability to inspire and engage students of all abilities.
  • A reflective and collaborative approach to leadership, with a commitment to continuous professional development and improvement.
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and external stakeholders.
  • The ability to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued, respected, and motivated to succeed.
