The position of Class 1 Shunter involves:

• Being responsible for the cleanliness and organisation of the entire yard to include reporting/identifying any health and safety issues.
• Shunting and loading/unloading of trailers, ensuring load security, and adhering to site safety policies.
• Moving trailers to be parked in allocated areas ready for delivery.
• Using a Counterbalance Forklift to load and unload vehicles as required.
• Liaising with the Transport Office as to what vehicles are parked in the yard.
• Carry out local collections and deliveries as and when required.
• Logging of trailers in and out of the depot.
• Attending regular training sessions.

Essential skills required for Class 1 Shunter:

• Must hold a UK Class 1 CE Licence.
• Hold a current DCPC Card and Digital Tachograph Driver Card.
• Previous experience of shunting is advantageous.
• Counterbalance licence is preferable, but not essential as full training can be given.
• Be passionate about providing excellent customer service.
• Working to deadlines.
• Confident, polite and a team player.
• Good geographical knowledge.
• Due to the nature of the role applicants must be fit, flexible, hardworking and self-motivated.
