Hours: Monday to Thursday 08:30 to 17:00pm, Friday 8:30 - 15:45

Short Description:

An exciting opportunity has become available in a fast-growing, well-established gas detection sensor and instrumentation company.

This job centres on the discovery, testing and development of world class gas sensors as well as the wider techniques and technologies that support gas sensing and detection. It is suitable for someone with relevant qualifications in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or a related discipline who demonstrates a keen interest in science and technology.

This hands-on, practical role will be based in ION's brand-new Technology Centre.

Researcher, Sensors - The Role:

The Role will report to the R&D Director and will involve the following:

• Hands-on work in a laboratory environment, handling gases, chemicals, electronics, gas delivery
systems and test equipment
• Running research experiments and characterising the performance of sensors
• Undertaking batch tests over extended periods to assess lifetime
• Performing manual measurements, use of dataloggers
• Data analysis
• Writing experimental methods, scientific and test reports
• Organisation and maintenance of lab equipment and inventory
• Working collaboratively with senior members of the team

Researcher, Sensors - The Person:

This is a hands-on role and the person appointed will be expected to:

• Maintain high levels of focus
• Have exceptional attention to detail
• Be capable of working independently as well as within a team
• Be able to work on their own initiative
• Demonstrate a diligent attitude to health and safety/ safe working practices
• Support and embody ION's core values

Researcher, Sensors - Technical qualities:

• Previous experience of gas sensing, sensors or related techniques e.g. gas chromatography an advantage
• Use of laboratory tools and equipment such as fume hoods, gas regulators, vacuum systems, power supplies, data loggers, mass flow controllers
• Experience in the handling and storage of hazardous chemicals and bottled gases
• Basic understanding of electronics e.g. use of Arduino controllers and Python
• Degree or HND level qualifications in a relevant subject e.g. Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or a related discipline
