Are you looking for a new legal secretary position?

Reed is recruiting for dedicated and well-organised Legal Secretaries to join exciting criminal law firms across Glasgow and West Scotland.

The main purpose of the roles is to provide outstanding secretarial support to the firms and the fee earners, whilst also liaising with clients and assisting with cases.

For this position, we are seeking an individuals with secretarial or administrative legal experience, ideally in criminal law, who are committed to the highest standard of work.

The responsibilities of this role are:

  • Providing comprehensive support to fee earners in criminal law.
  • Audio and copy typing using digital dictation.
  • Producing and amending a variety of legal documentation like initial writs, records, defence statements, legal aid applications, court submissions, legal correspondence etc.
  • Managing client expectations and keeping fee earners up to date with progress of cases.
  • Assisting with the preparation of case briefs, legal research, and court filings.
  • Opening and closing files.
  • Liaising with third parties like crown offices, Scottish courts, legal aid boards etc. 
  • Managing a busy diary schedule and co-ordinating client and court appointments.
  • Meeting/greeting clients, establishing strong client relationships, and dealing with general enquiries by phone and in-person.
  • Using case management software.
  • General office admin.

To succeed in this role, you must:

  • Have 1 or more years’ experience working in supportive legal roles.
  • Have a good working knowledge of criminal law, including court work and the legal aid process.
  • Possess excellent typing and transcription skills (knowledge of dictation software is ideal).
  • Have a familiarity with case management software e.g., LawPro.
  • Be warm and approachable to colleagues and clients at all times.
  • Have excellent organisational skills with good attention to detail.
  • Have strong general administrative skills.
  • Enjoy working as part of a busy team.
