Role: Senior Marine Surveyor

Location: Glasgow

Our Client has a requirement for an experienced marine surveyor with an inquisitive eye and practical problem solving mind. The role is a mix of traditional marine problems and application of modern regulations. Experience as an IACS surveyor would be a benefit but practical knowledge of marine systems and standards is essential to assist our clients in not only finding the issues but developing workable compliant solutions with them. A professional, calm and respectful manner is required as an important ambassador for our company.

There is a requirement to travel internationally for around 3 to 4 trips per year for between 2 and 6 weeks. These are on a pre-arranged program and short notice trips are not required.

The role can be based in the UK or Falkland Islands. When not surveying the requirement is to assist in maintaining the vessel safety management systems, developing solutions for known problems and programming future projects for improving the vessels and their safety.

You will be supported in all locations by vessel management and naval architecture partners and while this is an individual, self managed role there is a significant amount of team work with partners and flag authorities.

This is a great opportunity for a marine engineer or yard superintendent to draw on a wide knowledge base and apply that for our vessel improvement programs and enjoy working in different cultures with the packing of local partners.

The role is intended as full time but alternative work patterns may be considered.
A generous salary will be offered related to breadth of experience and ability to take on the practical and administrative sides of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Support vessel managers remotely in the run up to in-port period
  • Attend several vessels over a short ā€œfleet in port periodā€
  • Complete the survey database checks on each ship and ensure compliance with regulations

  • Reinspect for deficiency sign off
  • Annually, create work lists for vessel improvement and additional rule compliance
  • Work with partners to develop technical solutions for the improvements
  • Work with partner ship managers to ensure safety management systems are up to date
  • Attend several vessels during a short period for ensuring compliance for Port State Control Surveys
