The Role:

Clarkson Evans is the UK's leading electrical contractor for new homes. With over 650 site-based staff working across 550 housing developments throughout much of England and Wales, maintaining positive health and safety culture is an integral part of our business.

Based at our Gloucester office, you will work under the guidance of our Group Health and Safety Manager. You’ll be visiting client sites in England & Wales working to prevent incidents, injuries and health problems in the workplace as well as ensuring that our premises remain safe and healthy places for our employees across our branch network. You’ll assist in the creation, implementation, review and interpretation of policies and procedures ensuring everything is compliant.

You’ll need to have a positive attitude, be confident in your approach and not be afraid of challenging existing behaviours and practices. You will also be required to liaise with our clients site management teams to keep them appraised of H&S strategies which we implement and maintain essential documentation which is required on all our live projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional and proactive health and safety advisory service across the business, as identified by the Health and Safety Manager, which will include:
  1. Acting as a key contact to develop effective working relationships, influencing, and working with managers and their teams to enable them to implement their H&S requirements.
  2. Identify and provide targeted advice, support, and training for all colleagues.
  3. Remaining up to date with organisational structural changes across the business and any changes to site activities that may have an impact on health and safety risks.
  4. Be aware of changes to customer-based H&S policies and procedures and escalate changes to the Health and Safety Manager.
  5. Support and maintain the development of a programme of work to support colleagues with any issues or concerns relating to their wellbeing.
  • Support the H&S Manager in the development of risk assessments, method statements, guidance documents and toolbox talks.
  • Support the H&S Manager to deliver the H&S Audit programme, being the first point of contact for advice from H&S Advisors.
  • Support the H&S Manager with the development of the H&S Advisors.
  • Ensure stakeholder engagement and effective implementation of any new policies, procedures, processes, or risk assessments across the business.
  • Liaise with our house builder customers on health and safety matters, be that first point of contact and escalate where necessary to the H&S Manager.
  • Conduct safety inspections, audits, incident investigations, surveys etc predominantly within your region but on occasions across other areas of the business.
  • On occasions you may be requested to work with external agencies such as the HSE, Environmental Agency, Insurance, Police, Occupational Health. However, this will be under the instruction and guidance of the Health and Safety Manager.
  • Maintain electronic records in the agreed designated location, currently this is through Share Point.
  • Monitor, maintain and develop any future health and safety software management system that may be incorporated across the business.
  • Monitor and maintain current and/or future mandatory health and safety training for all colleagues.
  • Prepare regular (monthly/quarterly) and adhoc internal reports as agreed with the H&S Manager, which may include incident stats, audits delivered, actions completed/outstanding, mandatory training delivered, due or outstanding, mileage covered for individual/region, hotels booked, site updates, customer requests etc.

Requirements:

  • 3 years' post-qualification experience is essential
  • Construction industry knowledge is an advantage but not essential; your experience could come from manufacturing or another relevant industry
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate and/or NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent
  • Membership of either IOSH or IIRSM is desirable but not essential
  • A positive outlook and can-do attitude
  • A confident communicator who can challenge behaviour
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • The ability to learn quickly and think on your feet
