Job Description

Children Safeguarding Social Workers in the UK play a critical role in protecting children and young people from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Their duties primarily focus on assessing and managing risks to children's safety and well-being, collaborating with other professionals and agencies, and intervening to ensure children are safeguarded from harm.

One of the main responsibilities of a Children Safeguarding Social Worker is to conduct thorough assessments of children and families where there are concerns about abuse or neglect. They gather information from various sources, including the child, family members, schools, healthcare providers, and other relevant parties, to evaluate the level of risk and determine appropriate interventions.

Based on their assessments, Safeguarding Social Workers develop and implement child protection plans aimed at mitigating risks and ensuring the safety of children. These plans may involve coordinating services such as counselling, safe parenting support, substance abuse treatment, or safe accommodation arrangements.

Safeguarding Social Workers also work closely with other professionals, such as police officers, teachers, healthcare professionals, and legal authorities, to coordinate multi-agency responses to safeguarding concerns. They participate in case conferences, child protection meetings, and court proceedings as necessary, advocating for the best interests of the child and ensuring that safeguarding measures are effectively implemented.

In addition to responding to immediate safeguarding concerns, Children Safeguarding Social Workers also engage in preventative work, such as delivering training and awareness-raising initiatives within communities, schools, and other settings to promote early identification of risks and improve safeguarding practices.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in social work.
  • Registration with Social Work England as a qualified social worker.
  • Previous experience working with children and families in a social work setting, preferably with children with physical disabilities.
  • Strong assessment and analytical skills, with the ability to identify risks and develop effective intervention plans.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • A commitment to upholding the highest standards of professional ethics and integrity.

Benefits:

  • Competitive rates commensurate with experience.
  • Opportunities for professional development and continuing education.
  • Supportive work environment with opportunities for collaboration and growth.
  • Meaningful work that makes a positive impact on the lives of children and families in need.
