Our client are specialists in their market sector, they are looking for an experienced Design Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis.

The Job you’ll do

  • Undertaking conceptual design work in support of tenders, and detail design work for contracts and new product development.
  • Producing and managing models and engineering drawings within the Company’s CAD systems.
  • Utilizing the Company’s component databases to promote the reuse of existing designs.
  • Performing bearing performance calculations using the Company’s suite of software.
  • Performing structural strength of materials calculations to support the bearing design.
  • Participating in design review meetings.
  • Liaising with other departments, customers and suppliers in support of the above.
  • Preparing a list of parts that forms the skeleton for the Bill of Materials.
  • Generating and transferring the required departmental design documentation deliverables.
  • Maintaining component part records in the company database systems and other documents required by business quality system processes.
  • Always seeking to propose the most cost effective design.

About You

  • Must have a minimum of an HNC or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.

Essential:-

  • Can demonstrate a strong mechanical design background and sound knowledge of strength of materials.
  • Is able to produce technical drawings to a recognised standard.
  • Is skilled in the application of ISO limits and fits.
  • Has familiarity with cast, fabricated and precision machined components.
  • Is computer literate and an experienced 3D CAD user with 2D technical drawing skills(preferably Creo or Pro/Engineer).
  • Experience of designing castings, fabrications and precision machined, close toleranced, turned and milled components.
  • Time management, problem solving and organisational skills.

Desirable:-

  • Familiarity of international standards/directives related to the design and testing of products for use in naval, nuclear and hazardous area applications.
  • Has a basic understanding of hydrodynamic bearings.
  • Has experience of Windchill.
  • Has experience of MathCAD.
  • Has experience of GTX and/or AutoCAD.
  • Has experience of Microsoft Office applications.
