Position Overview: As the Senior Commercial Manager for our Rail Division, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing all commercial aspects of our national portfolio of projects, driving the division's success and ensuring profitability. Reporting directly to the Divisional Commercial Director, you will lead a team and collaborate closely with various stakeholders to ensure the effective management of contracts from pre-contract negotiations to project delivery and handback.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all commercial aspects of the Rail Division's projects, ensuring adherence to budgets, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Manage a national portfolio of projects with an annual turnover of approximately 50 million.
  • Lead and manage a business unit within the division, ensuring alignment with company goals and strategies.
  • Demonstrate strong commercial competencies in negotiating and managing contracts, particularly with NEC, JCT, and ICE forms of contract.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a team of 3 to 4 direct reports, as well as overseeing a wider commercial team of up to 30 individuals.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure effective pre-contract preparations, including risk assessments, tendering, and contract negotiations.
  • Drive the implementation of commercial strategies to optimize project outcomes and mitigate risks.
  • Foster strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to enhance project delivery and profitability.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is preferred.
  • Proven experience in a senior commercial management role within the rail industry, with a track record of managing a business unit and delivering successful projects.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience working with NEC, JCT, and ICE forms of contract.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify commercial opportunities and risks.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
