Coach Driver - Vertas Group Limited
£15.00 per hour
Ipswich Depot
Monday to Friday, Occasional weekend overtime available
37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
To be responsible for driving Buses, Coaches, and minibuses on home to school contracts, private hires, swimming transport and local bus routes and for the safety of the passengers whilst transporting them, and additional driving duties as directed by your Line Manager.

Main Activities and Responsibilities:
The operation of allocated vehicles in accordance with instructions and requirements set out in legislation and with due regard to safety, including daily vehicle checks, cleaning, and fuelling.
To understand and respect the passenger’s privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
Carry out specific work in accordance with schedules and/or timetables provided via daily/weekly instruction sheet and/or work ticket. All work allocation by written instruction and supervised by Depot Manager
Carry out work in accordance with instructions issued by the Depot Manager or authorised member of the management staff to cope with emergency or changed requirements.
Completion and submission of additional hours form for all hours worked beyond contract hours.
Knowledge of EU Driver’s Hours and/or Domestic Drivers’ Hours Regulations
Accurate completion of tachograph and/or completion of weekly log sheets and other work tickets.
To ensure as far as reasonably practicable, observance and adherence to the provisions of the Health & Safety Work Act 1974.
Ensure that services are provided in accordance with departmental standards and objectives and quality assurance.
Undertake training and attend courses.
Perform such duties of a like nature as may be directed by the Operations Manager and or Transport Manager

The duties listed are not exhaustive and may be varied therefore the post holder will be expected to undertake other duties as appropriate to the role and as requested by his/her line manager.
Level of Autonomy and Decision Making:
Driving with due care and consideration and normal decision making to be made according to road conditions.
Supervise all passengers boarding and alighting from the vehicle and the seating and securing passengers where appropriate.
Ensuring the safety & Comfort of passengers.
To understand and respect the passenger’s privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
Collection of fares and issue of tickets if required
Responsibility of accurate passenger fares/ticket records

Education and Qualification:
Essential -
- PCV Licence (Cat. D) Entitlement
- Qualified to Drivers Certificate of Professional Competence (Drivers CPC) – in Date
Desirable -
- Able to write simple incident reports
- Competent in use of Tachograph records completion
- Good standard of education.
- Knowledge of First Aid / Emergency Aid
Specialist Knowledge and Skills
Essential -
- Good geographical knowledge of national and local area.
Desirable -
- Knowledge of EU Drivers Hours’ and/or Domestic Drivers Regulations.
- Minimum of 3 years driving experience.
- Experience of Working with vulnerable adults and children
Interpersonal and Communication Skills
Essential -
- Able to understand verbal and written instructions.
- Able to record legible information.
- Able to develop and maintain good relationships with colleagues and customers.
- An understanding of passenger needs and the ability to respond.
- Ability to respond to unplanned situations, e.g., Unwell passengers, traffic delays.
- Flexible and adaptable Approach toward work
- Patient & Tolerant with Excellent Customer Service Skills and Good Organisational Skills
Desirable -
- Able to write simple incident reports
- Experience of interacting with a wide range of people.
Relevant Experience
Essential -
- Driving large Passenger vehicles.
Desirable -
- Experience of dealing with young people.
- Experience of dealing with young people with physical or behavioural difficulties.
- Handling wheelchair passengers or prepared to undergo training.
Additional Requirements
Essential -
- Flexibility and adaptability to work with changing operational needs, sometimes at short notice.
- You will need to have Patience, Tolerance and the ability to remain Calm in challenging situations.
Desirable -
- Prepared to undertake training and attend courses.

Must be required to have an enhanced DBS Check undertaken
