Tucked on the edge of Burgh Island, The Pilchard Inn is a characterful and historic pub with unbeatable views and a reputation for serving great food in a truly unique setting. We’re looking for a committed Chef de Partie to join our small but mighty kitchen team delivering high-quality, high-volume seasonal food that delights locals and visitors alike.

About the Role:

This is a hands-on position in a compact, fast-paced kitchen that punches above its weight. You’ll be responsible for running your section confidently, preparing fresh dishes for both our relaxed lunch service and a more elevated evening menu. You’ll thrive on the energy of a busy service, take pride in great execution, and bring consistency to every plate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage your section efficiently during prep and service
  • Cook dishes to spec using fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced produce
  • Support a changing menu with a mix of classic pub favourites and refined evening options
  • Keep your station clean, organised, and compliant with food safety standards
  • Work as part of a tight, supportive team in a high-pressure environment
  • Help maintain stock control, labelling, and kitchen systems

What We’re Looking For:

  • Previous experience as a CDP or strong Demi CDP in a fast-paced kitchen
  • Comfortable with both high-volume and quality cooking
  • A proactive, can-do attitude and willingness to adapt
  • Strong work ethic, timekeeping, and team spirit
  • Passion for honest, well-executed food

Hours & Flexibility:

  • 40-hour contract over 5 days per week – flexibility is essential, especially during peak seasons
  • Weekend and evening availability is expected

Accommodation:

  • Live-in accommodation available in subsidised staff housing (subject to availability)

Important to Know:

  • Due to our remote location, live-out applicants must have a car and valid UK driving licence
  • Applicants must have the right to work in the UK – we are unable to provide visa sponsorship

Why Work with Us?

  • Cook in one of the UK’s most iconic island settings
  • Be part of a small, passionate team that supports each other
  • Competitive salary, monthly gratuities, and excellent food while on shift
  • Staff discounts and wellbeing support
  • A genuinely rare opportunity to live and work somewhere extraordinary
