Mechanical Engineering Design Draughtsperson

  • Full time (40 hours per week), permanent
  • £30,000 - £45,000 dependent on experience
  • 2+ years’ experience following apprentice training is desirable

About the Role:

As a Mechanical Engineering Design Draughtsperson, you will play a pivotal role in our Engineering Design team at our Knottingley headquarters. Reporting to the Group Production Director, you will be responsible for producing detailed engineering drawings, developing conceptual designs, and liaising with suppliers to ensure the efficient manufacturing of our production facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilise 3D and 2D AutoCAD packages proficiently.
  • Produce detailed engineering drawings and specifications for manufacture and assembly.
  • Develop conceptual designs of automated production plant equipment.
  • Design steelwork, including structural work, platforms, and pipework.
  • Perform structural calculations and size drives to suit application requirements.
  • Liaise with suppliers for component specification and availability.
  • Support and advise engineering staff throughout the manufacturing process.

This role requires physical activity, including outdoor and indoor site work, navigating steps/ladders/walkways, accessing production machinery, and wearing PPE for certain tasks and areas.


The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate will be apprentice trained in Design Draughting or Mechanical Engineering Design, with a minimum qualification of HNC or equivalent. Key skills and attributes include:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD packages.
  • Experience in producing detailed engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and drive systems.
  • Ability to perform structural calculations.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
