The role:

As Delivery Manager you will oversee and lead the successful delivery of a comprehensive programme of works executed by UU’s Capital Delivery Organisation.

We offer a diverse range of roles across multiple disciplines, encompassing areas such as Better Rivers, Wastewater, Water, and Enterprise. Should you be successful in securing a position, you may be assigned to any of the above programmes.

The size and complexity of our new 5-year Capital Investment Programme (AMP8) is 4 times bigger than previous programmes and United Utilities have a huge opportunity to transform the infrastructure of the North West.

As a Delivery Manager, you will be responsible for creating and mentoring project teams, ensuring quality, timeliness and alignment with our organisational vision, sustainability targets and our eco-friendly reputation. You will use your leadership skills to handle dynamic situations and influence strategies across various business contexts and key aspects of our capital programme. You will also collaborate with other experts to tackle challenges unique to our industry and contribute to our success and help UU achieve our goals.

In joining us, you will have full exposure to the organisation, our major contracts and our largest industry partners. Stakeholder engagement is vital for this role. You will therefore need to build strong working relationships, manage key internal and external stakeholders effectively and provide expert advice to our contractors and regulators, especially Ofwat, Drinking Water Inspectorate, Environment Agency and various Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

Key accountabilities:

  • You will establish, lead and manage high performing multi-disciplinary teams who work together to achieve outstanding results and set project, change programme, or direction to deliver agreed outcomes whilst striving to deliver outcomes that meet or exceed expectations.
  • You will deliver projects and support project documentation and requirements within the performance/cost/time envelope. This includes looking for the most cost-efficient and risk-minimizing solutions to ensure customer satisfaction and project success.
  • You will collaborate with senior leaders and teams across the organisation to ensure they understand and agree with the programme objectives and expectations. At the same time, you will strive to provide them with the necessary support and guidance to help them achieve their own goals and deliverables within the programme framework.
  • You will achieve budget goals for all current and future accounting periods. Lead and ensure that the financial (and resource) profiles are aligned with the project schedule and the work breakdown structure (WBS).
  • You will oversee building the Performance Measurement Baseline for our project/portfolio. This is a crucial task that will help us monitor and control the progress and performance of our work. You will need to integrate the schedule with the scope, cost, and quality baselines to create a comprehensive and realistic plan.

Skills & experience:

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essentialcriteria:

  • Experience of leading and managing a project management team delivering complex portfolio projects
  • Any of the following: APMPMQ/MSP/PRINCE2, MAPMChPP or RPP, relevant Post-Graduate qualification i.e. MSc (Project Management), PLP or equivalent skills, knowledge and experience
  • Hold a current UK/EU driving licence

It would also be great if you can demonstrate any of the following?desirable?criteria:

  • Experience of working within the water / wastewater industry.
  • NEC Project Experience
  • Practical experience in applying the CDM Regulations
