Head of Estimating – Construction, Salary: £80-90k + car + excellent benefits package, Based out of Morley, Leeds with some travel to customer sites across the UK.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Estimating to join a market leading in modular construction. The Head of Estimating is responsible for leading the estimating function and providing accurate and competitive cost estimates for modular construction projects. This role primarily focuses on projects for the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Justice, education, healthcare, and retail sectors. The Head of Estimating will play a crucial role in ensuring the profitability and success of projects by providing reliable estimates and collaborating closely with stakeholders.

The role:

  • Estimating Strategy: Develop and implement an effective estimating strategy that aligns with business goals and targets.
  • Cost Estimation: Lead the estimating process for new projects, including analyzing project requirements, conducting site visits, and preparing accurate cost estimates.
  • Bid Management: Manage the bid process, including reviewing tender documents, coordinating with internal teams, and preparing comprehensive bid proposals.
  • Value Engineering: Collaborate with the design and engineering teams to evaluate alternative materials, construction methods, and cost-saving measures without compromising quality.
  • Pricing and Quoting: Develop pricing strategies and establish competitive pricing for proposals, ensuring alignment with market rates and profitability targets.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and uncertainties in project estimates, and develop mitigation strategies to minimize financial exposure.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate closely with internal teams, including project managers, engineers, and procurement, to ensure accurate and cohesive estimations.
  • Client Relationship Management: Engage with clients during the estimation process, providing clarifications, addressing concerns, and building strong relationships.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve estimating processes, tools, and templates to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and consistency.

Candidate requirements:

  • Experience in a Head of Estimating or similar estimating and cost management role within the construction sector, preferably in modular construction.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, quantity surveying, or a related field. Master's degree is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of construction estimating techniques, methodologies, and industry standards.
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills, with the ability to interpret complex project requirements and develop accurate cost estimates.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and tools, as well as Conquest.
  • High attention to detail and ability to work with precision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively present and explain cost estimates to stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to supervise and mentor estimating staff.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards in the construction industry.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
