Castlefield Recruitment are delighted to be working in retained partnership with Leeds Beckett University (LBU) to identify a high calibre senior estates professional for their newly created Head of Estates vacancy.

Role: Head of Estates

Type: Permanent

Hours: Mon-Fri (37 hours a week)

Responsibilities will include:

  • Reporting to the Director of Estates, providing leadership and strategic direction to the Estates team in all aspects of hard facilities management services
  • To lead on the development of operational strategy, integrating services and improving efficiency and effectiveness across all areas of hard FM service delivery
  • To deliver or oversee and ensure the delivery of projects from inception to completion including the development of delivery strategies; the procurement of consultant teams and/or contractors/suppliers; project, risk, carbon, stakeholder and cost management; progress reporting; securing internal and external approvals. All within allocated resources and to agreed quality expectations
  • Developing a long-term lifecycle maintenance plan based on asset information, surveys, and maintenance history, profiling/adjusting as necessary to align with available resources
  • Being responsible for all aspects of space asset data including the maintenance of accurate space information, introducing mechanisms to assess space use and utilisation, and work with key stakeholders to drive the efficient and effective use of space
  • Overseeing the development of energy procurement strategy, monitoring the success of the strategy and making recommendations as necessary to ensure that the university maintains the optimum balance of risk, cost and energy-security
  • Overseeing and provide leadership and guidance to the Sustainability team, both in terms of the oversight of scope 1 and 2 carbon reduction targets, and the work across all areas of the university

The Person:

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline and a relevant professional qualification e.g. MRICS, MCIOB
  • Experience of organising and managing hard facilities management services, including maintenance, at a senior level in a large and complex, multi-site environment specifically including driving culture change and a customer-focused approach to service delivery
  • Experience of working at senior level developing /managing capital projects through all stages
  • Excellent knowledge and sound appreciation of sustainability and its application to large organisations, particularly in estates and facilities
