Are you a skilled and adaptable educator looking for a new exciting support staff job in Leeds? Hays are currently working in partnership with a primary school located in Alwoodley to appoint a passionate key stage two progress and wellbeing coach on a permanent basis for September.

The school is established in Alwoodly in north Leeds. They welcome children from all faiths and backgrounds and those of none. They have a vibrant, dynamic and diverse school community, with representatives from many cultures and approx 40 languages spoken. This leads to a rich, colourful and exciting community.Their extensive school grounds enable them to plan many opportunities for learning, which have been enhanced by Forest School training, apple press and on-site composter. They love to garden, grow things, create outdoor sculptures and use our natural environment as well as our fort, fire pit, amphitheatre, pizza oven, Multi-Use Games Area, orchard and more. The school aims to keep our premises up to date, with our own purpose built Arts space, Café and Nurture space. Summer 2022 saw our beautiful sensory room, The Hive, installed on the site. Looking rather like a fairy tale building outside, this will be further enhanced with a sensory garden surrounding the wooden building.

The responsibilities of this role include:

  • To promote positive behaviour patterns, raise self-esteem and improve independent working with pupils to assist their education and growth.
  • To support the physical and emotional well-being of pupils.
  • To build and maintain positive and professional relationships with pupils and their families
  • To help develop pupils' confidence and self-esteem through listening to them and devising appropriate programmes of support.
  • To support underperforming learners by identifying issues which are creating barriers to learning and help pupils to begin to address these barriers.
  • To work with identified Pupil Premium group pupils and their families to narrow the attainment gap using a variety of methods including observations, in class support, and conference calls.
  • To commit to pastoral team priorities, reporting on the impact of interventions using for example SDQs.
  • Liaising with external agencies such as NE Area Inclusion Partnership and the Alwoodley, Roundhay and Moortown Cluster Services.
  • Holding parental surgeries and workshops
  • Attending parent teacher meetings and consultations

What you'll need to succeed

  • Degree level education or equivalent
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development evidenced through certificates or enrolment in relevant college or professional body courses
  • Extensive experience of working effectively with children, young people and families in challenging environments
  • Excellent communication skills - both face to face and written
  • The ability to deal with sensitive situations in a confidential manner
  • The ability to work positively and effectively under pressure, taking note of, and acting on, all issues relating to the wellbeing and safeguarding of children
  • A commitment to develop the personalities and abilities of all children at the school
  • Proactive team member skills but able to take the initiative and work independently when needed
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of child growth and development
  • The ability to relate to young people and act as a positive role model
  • The ability to set and stay within professional boundaries
  • An awareness of a range of local and national statutory and voluntary agencies that families can access, be signposted or referred to.
  • Understanding of relevant polices/codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation
  • General understanding of national/foundation stage curriculum and other basic programmes/strategies
  • A positive non-judgemental mindset
