Location: Leicestershire

Our client is seeking a Transport Assessor due to their team currently experiencing a number of data issues following the implementation of a new software. They need someone who has excellent attention to detail and is able to pick up new software systems easily.

The ‘transport’ element is not your usual transport logistics role, the service is related to school transport provided by the local authority and the team apply policy and assess individual transport requirements.  A big part of the role will be entering and correcting data, fact finding and taking calls.

Responsibilities:

  • To ensure activities are delivered in the most efficient and effective manner as possible
  • Responsible for protecting and managing information securely, and reporting breaches or suspected information security breaches, in line with Council policies
  • To maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with customers and colleagues within the team and across the service
  • Use relevant information and/or seek new information on a child’s mainstream or Special Educational Needs education and individual circumstances to determine whether or not they are eligible for home to school transport in accordance with the policy
  • To communicate assessment outcomes to parents / carers, schools, colleges and internal staff
  • Maintain up to date and accurate records and assist in the development and collection of data and statistics relating to all service users
  • Annual re-assessment of children’s continuing eligibility, particularly as they move from primary to secondary and secondary to FE/Sixth Form Colleges
  • Responding effectively to queries from parents, schools and colleges regarding eligibility
  • With senior staff, plan and manage the annual review and re-allocation of school transport in the period leading up to each autumn term
  • To prepare reports for senior officers where families have requested a review of a decision
  • To complete and review every aspect of passenger transport risk assessments and development of travel plans for service users

Requirements:

  • Use of MS Office applications
  • Good analytical skills for interpreting reports
  • Working to tight deadlines
  • Negotiation with / gathering information from internal and external bodies / partners
  • Dealing with customers by telephone and in person including difficult conversations
  • Working in a transport, assessment or procurement environment
  • Risk assessment relating to Health and Safety
  • Producing written reports and correspondence
  • Able to use own initiative in planning & prioritising own workload
  • Good communication skills demonstrating tact, assertiveness and diplomacy
