Prospero Teaching are recruiting for a Special Needs Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a child in an outstanding primary school in Leyland. The position is to support a child with additional needs. The SEN TA will help the child with managing their behaviour, focusing on some age-appropriate tasks, and with social interaction, communication, and academic development. The position is full-time, to begin as soon as possible, and will continue until the end of the academic year for the successful applicant. The opportunity to secure a place for the following academic year may be available upon a successful trial period. The school would like to organise trial days if possible.

This is a primary school with a confident, dedicated, and experienced staff team. You will be expected to carry out general duties around the classroom and work proactively with the team. Experience of working on a 1:1 basis is required, and it is also essential that you have knowledge of SEN additional needs and strategies for managing challenging behaviour effectively. You will need to be a calm and patient person who is able to maintain a positive and encouraging style of communication.

  • Approachable, calm and a good team player
  • Available long-term

The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will have the following:

  • Relevant qualification in supporting teaching and learning in schools, SEN, or relevant experience
  • UK classroom experience
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • References covering the last 2 years
  • A fully enhanced DBS on the online update service, or be prepared to process a new one at a cost of £45
