Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and install R&D prototypes for alternative fueled commercial vehicles and machines.
  • Develop component and system designs, specifying and sourcing necessary components.
  • Design wiring looms and build prototype wiring harnesses for low and high voltage systems.
  • Conduct validation testing of components and systems as required.
  • Prepare and maintain R&D Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Set up and configure CAN-based systems.
  • Collect and analyze data to inform decision-making.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team on various projects.

Functional Skills:

  • Manage multiple R&D projects concurrently, delivering results in a timely manner.
  • Specify required components and communicate effectively with project leads.
  • Define control system requirements tailored to project needs.
  • Build and validate R&D prototypes with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate a proactive and self-starting approach to tasks.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive information.
  • Willingness to travel to off-site locations as needed.

Qualifications, Education, Skills, and Experience:

In order to be successful as the next Mechanical Development Engineer you’ll have the following skills and experience.

Mandatory:

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant industry experience (in addition to degree).
  • Proficiency in reading, producing, and amending automotive wiring diagrams and technical drawings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective technical communication.
  • Experience with mechanical and electrical integration in vehicle applications.
  • Ability to solve engineering problems through hand calculations.

Desired:

  • Working knowledge of engines and/or fuel cells.
  • Previous experience working in an Automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with electric drivetrain/high voltage systems.
  • Understanding of CAN bus systems.
  • Knowledge of vehicle cooling systems.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software.
