Head Barista / Manager - New opening Independent Coffee Shop

Location: Islington, London
Salary: £35,000 to £40,000 depending on experience

Responsibilities:

Coffee Program Development:

  • Lead the development and execution of our coffee program, from selecting beans to designing the menu and establishing brewing standards.
  • Essential focus on pour-over coffee, necessitating expertise in this area.
  • Collaborate with management to source sustainably and ethically sourced coffee beans from trusted suppliers.
  • Stay updated on industry trends to enhance the coffee program continually.

Coffee Preparation and Service:

  • Prepare and serve coffee beverages with precision and care, employing various brewing methods.
  • Train and educate team members on coffee techniques, including espresso extraction, milk steaming, and latte art.
  • Ensure consistency in quality and presentation, addressing customer feedback for improvement.

Sustainability and Responsible Practices:

  • Advocate for sustainability, implementing waste reduction measures and responsible sourcing.
  • Source beans from reputable suppliers prioritising fair trade and organic practices.
  • Implement recycling and waste management systems, promoting environmentally friendly practices.

Team Training and Development:

  • Conduct training sessions to enhance team members' coffee knowledge and customer service skills.
  • Foster a positive work environment, offering guidance and mentorship to develop baristas' abilities.

Equipment and Inventory Management:

  • Maintain coffee equipment for optimal performance and safety standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels and manage stock to ensure smooth operations.
  • Collaborate on equipment procurement to enhance efficiency.


Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a professional barista, with expertise in pour-over coffee.
  • Extensive knowledge of coffee beans, brewing techniques, and espresso machine operations.
  • Ability to develop and lead a comprehensive coffee program, including training protocols and menu design.
  • Passion for sustainability and responsible sourcing practices.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in inventory management and cost control.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as required.
