A secure, technically advanced government organisation is looking for a Principal Electronics Engineer to serve as the technical lead and design authority on a range of cutting-edge electronics projects. This role is ideal for a senior engineer with a strong foundation in design and a proven record of technical leadership.



The Role

This is not just a hands-on role-it's about setting direction, maintaining design integrity, and ensuring robust delivery across complex, often bespoke electronics systems. You'll guide a high-performing team through design reviews, component strategy, and innovation roadmaps, while actively mentoring and influencing project success.



Key Responsibilities

  • Act as design authority across all electronic development projects

  • Lead formal design reviews and provide expert oversight

  • Drive early-stage problem-solving and design strategy

  • Research and integrate new technologies and techniques

  • Mentor engineers and provide daily technical guidance

  • Align technical development with delivery objectives and timelines

  • Contribute to prototyping, validation, and system evaluations



Required Qualifications & Experience

  • PhD in Electronics or related field
    OR Master's degree with 10+ years of high-level electronics design experience

  • Broad expertise including:

    • Analogue/digital circuit design

    • Schematic capture and PCB layout

    • Embedded systems (hardware/software)

    • RF, signal processing, or high-speed design

  • Experience leading design reviews and setting technical standards

  • Strong stakeholder communication at both technical and strategic levels



Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status

  • Background in secure, regulated, or safety-critical systems

  • Experience in miniaturised or low-SWaP electronic design
