We are seeking a Finance Manager to provide exceptional financial leadership for a local authority secondary school, managing a budget of £10m. This senior role requires a strategic thinker who can align financial management with our school’s vision and priorities. The successful candidate will report to the School Business, HR, and Estates Strategy Director and will be instrumental in driving growth, income generation, and maintaining the highest standards of financial integrity.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Lead the Finance Team, providing training, development, and performance management.
  • Deliver accurate financial information to support effective management and strategic decision-making.
  • Drive change initiatives for internal efficiencies and best practice in all financial activities.
  • Prepare annual budgets and monthly forecasts for board approval.
  • Produce and present financial reports to governors and the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Write grant applications and maximise opportunities for additional income.
  • Manage in-school projects with financial aspects and carry out financial modelling for strategic decisions.
  • Monitor resource deployment and achieve income targets.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts and service level agreements, ensuring value for money.
  • Provide financial oversight for capital projects, income-generating activities, and curriculum activities.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in financial leadership within an educational setting.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong management skills with the ability to lead and develop a team.
  • Excellent judgement on financial matters and experience in strategic financial planning.
  • Experience in grant writing and income generation.
  • Proficiency in financial management systems and compliance with financial regulations.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
