Full time on a temporary basis

  • We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-focused Clerk of Works to support the successful delivery of a wide range of capital construction projects. This role is critical in ensuring that all on-site activities meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance.

    As Clerk of Works, you will:

    • Be responsible for delivering the Capital Project programme by managing and monitoring construction activities on-site involving term contractors, sub-contractors, other departments, utility companies, and external organisations.
    • Oversee and inspect workmanship, materials, and processes to ensure construction meets all specifications and standards.
    • Ensure compliance with legal, environmental, and health and safety regulations.
    • Support the delivery of projects ranging from small-scale improvements to major infrastructure developments.
    Key Responsibilities
    • Supervise contractors to ensure adherence to project specifications, the Streetsmart Design Guide, and relevant construction standards.
    • Monitor compliance with environmental regulations, health and safety legislation (including CDM 2015 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974), and traffic management requirements.
    • Conduct regular site inspections and maintain detailed records, including reports, photographs, and material receipts.
    • Ensure traffic signage and carriageway markings comply with Traffic Management Orders and Department for Transport regulations.
    • Liaise with developers and contractors to ensure compliance with the Highways Act and project KPIs.
    • Make informed construction decisions in consultation with Project Engineers to ensure best value and fitness for purpose.
