As a Teaching Assistant – FINCH, you will be working closely with students who require tailored support both academically and behaviorally, helping to unlock their potential and re-engage them with learning.
Key Responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant – FINCH:
- Individualized Learning
You will work closely with students who require additional support, helping them access the curriculum, encouraging their independence, and adapting activities to suit their individual learning needs. You’ll help set and review student targets and report progress to the teaching staff.
- Student Engagement and Behaviour Management
You will help promote and maintain a positive, respectful learning environment in line with Finch CORE values. This includes reinforcing behavioural expectations, managing incidents calmly and professionally, and supporting students to develop social skills and positive peer relationships.
- Daily Student Support and Supervision
You will play a central role in the daily routines of Finch, including welcoming students in the morning, organizing breakfast, collecting mobile phones, and supervising break times. You will also ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times on school premises and during off-site activities.
- Safeguarding and Well-being
You are expected to follow all Finch procedures related to safeguarding, health and safety, child protection, and data confidentiality. Reporting concerns promptly and accurately is essential in ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all students.
- Collaboration and Communication
You will work as part of a team with teachers, support staff, and managers to meet the needs of individual students. Liaising regularly with teaching staff about student progress, behaviour, and learning needs will be a key part of your role.
- Extra-Curricular and School Life Involvement
As a Teaching Assistant, you will contribute to the wider school experience by supporting extracurricular events, trips, and activities. Your involvement in these areas helps build strong relationships and encourages holistic student development.
- Professional Development
You will be expected to participate in Finch’s staff training, appraisal, and development programs, as well as identifying and undertaking personal training needs to enhance your effectiveness in the role.
This position is integral to maintaining Finch’s high standards of behaviour, safety, and student support, and you will be expected to operate in alignment with Finch’s values, policies, and professional expectations at all times.
The Ideal Teaching Assistant – FINCH Will:

Have prior experience in a similar educational, youth work, or behavioural support role.

Be flexible, creative, and calm under pressure.

Demonstrate a genuine passion for inclusion and helping students overcome barriers to learning.

Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Understand safeguarding principles and be committed to the welfare of all learners.

Hold an enhanced DBS registered on the update service (or be willing to apply).

Be eligible to work in the UK and able to provide two professional references.
