Our client is a leading international firm with a strong reputation in the markets in which it operates, in both dispute resolution and advisory services.
Their contentious tax team covers both direct and indirect contentious tax matters. This includes managing tax risk, HMRC investigations and tax litigation (controversy) before the tax tribunals and higher courts. The team acts for corporates and private clients in many jurisdictions around the world, supporting them with advice and through crisis-related issues with tax authorities and regulatory and law enforcement bodies. They have been involved in many of the UK's most high profile pieces of tax litigation.
Due to planned growth, the team is now looking for an additional Associate.
In order to be considered for this role you will have:
- Strong academics, intellectual rigour and strong technical and research skills.
- Preferably an understanding of, and interest in, tax law and procedure.
- Experience of working on and running tax cases in a team environment.
- Client contact and business development experience appropriate to your PQE.
- The ability to adopt a proactive approach and take initiative.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage a busy, complex case load.
The team describes themselves as litigators before tax Lawyers, and as such whilst tax controversy-specific experience would be very highly regarded, a litigator with another specialism but with an understanding and interest in tax-related work might also be of interest. Candidates with PQE coming straight from HMRC looking for a move into the private sector would be very interesting.
