This role is crucial in identifying and supporting learners who require additional assistance or are at risk of not achieving their potential. You will act as a safeguarding officer, ensuring the welfare and well-being of all learners and serving as the first point of contact for staff with safeguarding concerns.

You will provide outstanding pastoral and welfare support, reduce barriers to learning, and help nurture happy, confident, and resilient learners.

Are you the right person for the job?

  • Educational qualifications to at least Level 3
  • Post-Level 3 educational experience/qualifications is desirable
  • English and Maths qualifications at a minimum of Level 2/GCSE are desirable
  • Safeguarding Level 3 qualification or willingness to work towards it
  • Commitment to a learner-centred approach
  • Experience working with young people to support their educational journeys and personal development
  • Experience setting and agreeing SMART targets with young people and monitoring progress
  • Experience supporting learners in an educational setting is desirable
  • Coaching/mentoring skills are  desirable
  • Understanding of the Education Inspection Framework (EIF) and ability to lead in areas of personal development, attitudes, and behaviours
  • IT proficiency and experience with education management information systems
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent planning, monitoring, and reporting skills
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a flexible, adaptable approach
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, health, and safety

What will your role look like?

  • Collaborate with the Head of Centre and other teams to support learners in Apprenticeship and AEB courses, ensuring successful outcomes and achievement of KPIs
  • Ensure all learner support-related income is accounted for and achieved
  • Manage a caseload of learners, delivering timely interventions to improve their engagement, participation, and retention
  • Utilise referral routes to ensure learners access a wide range of activities and support services
  • Attend and contribute to meetings related to learner needs and support services, including Curriculum At Risk, Disciplinary, EHCP Reviews, and Performance Review meetings
  • Complete documentation to capture the delivery and impact of support provided, including action plans and tracking forms
  • Support learners through enrolment, induction, and transition to courses
  • Offer day-to-day support for learners in line with their agreed pastoral, medical, or attendance strategies
  • Respond appropriately to disclosures and concerns related to learner well-being
  • Establish constructive relationships and liaise with external services to provide additional support for individual learners
  • Plan and present tutorials addressing universal welfare topics
  • Promote and enforce  safeguarding policy and procedures, maintaining up-to-date knowledge and sharing best practices
