Our client, a boutique law firm in Southeast London is currently seeking an experienced individual to join their Immigration & Prison Law Team. The community is at the heart of everything they do and they are passionate about supporting all clients, whether private or through Legal Aid. As they continue to expand across the region, you will be instrumental in ensuring all clients are represented to the highest degree and the firm’s reputation, continues to flourish.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Paralegal, Caseworker or Newly Qualified Solicitor. There will also be the chance to practice in other areas of law such as Mental Health and Criminal Defence.

Acting as Solicitor/Caseworker or Paralegal, your responsibilities will be to:

  • Undertake Immigration and prison law casework and keep records in accordance with funding targets and requirements under the LAA’s contract and the Law Society’s requirements.
  • Undertake both private and public funded cases.
  • Hold and take full responsibility for a varied caseload including High Court cases
  • Instruct and brief counsel as appropriate, including attendance at hearings and conferences with counsel.
  • Undertake legal research.
  • Review and keep up to date with legal developments, judgments and practice.
  • Liaise and develop referral systems with current and potential client groups and organisations
  • Ensure that casework is conducted to the highest professional standard.
  • Carry out such administrative tasks as are necessary to run a caseload efficiently. This includes the legal aid billing, opening, closing and billing of files, lodging of court documents, inputting date on the case management system, note taking at case and team meetings.
  • Record chargeable time and bill at levels determined by the firm.
  • To contact clients, send out information and maintain files consistent with case management policy.
  • To liaise with clients, counsels, experts and public bodies as required.
  • To assist with any other duties consistent with the post as required.
