Head of Learning Disabilities and Mental Health

Location: London Borough of Hackney

Working: Hybrid ? minimum 2 days/week on-site

Contract Type: Locum

Pay Rate: 475/d

Hackney is seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to take on the role of Head of Learning Disabilities and Mental Health within Adult Social Care. This is a well-established and respected position, offering the opportunity to lead two integrated services:

  • Integrated Learning Disabilities Service (ILDS) - hosted within the London Borough of Hackney
  • Integrated Mental Health Service (IMHS) - hosted within East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT)

Both services operate under Section 75 arrangements, reflecting Hackney?s commitment to integrated, person-centred care.

About the Role

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong operational expertise and a deep understanding of adult social care, particularly in learning disabilities and mental health.

You'll be:

  • Leading and supporting teams managing complex cases
  • Attending weekly panels to authorise care packages based on quality, cost, and outcomes
  • Collaborating with system partners to ensure legally sound decisions, including S117 and CHC
  • Supporting the transition of mental health social work functions into a new structure
  • Preparing for the role?s regrading to Assistant Director, which will include oversight of the Out of Hours function

  • Has proven operational leadership experience in adult social care, specifically in learning disabilities and mental health
  • Demonstrates strong legal literacy and a commitment to enabling independence and positive outcomes
  • Can lead by example and provide day-to-day support to teams
  • Is confident working in partnership across health and social care systems
