Role Overview:

As an Animal Technician, you will be responsible for providing top-notch animal care through a variety of duties. These include basic animal husbandry, observations, feeding, watering, and cleaning. You may also be involved in breeding and weaning animals, working in both animal and laboratory environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Daily feeding, watering, and observation of animals along with routine welfare and environmental checks.
  • Providing enrichment and exercise for animals.
  • Cleaning and maintaining animal cages, pens, rooms, and associated areas.
  • Correct disposal of waste materials.
  • Accurately collecting and recording data in line with policies and processes.
  • Handling animals competently and with care according to policy and guidelines.
  • Sexing and weighing animals.
  • Performing physical examinations and health checks.
  • Preparing transport boxes.
  • Collecting biological tissue.
  • Understanding relevant legislation (ASPA) including the Code of Practice.
  • Carrying out tasks in compliance with Home Office, health and safety, and ISO 9001 standards.
  • Completing mandatory training to ensure capability in all aspects of the role.

Requirements:

  • Strong work ethic and excellent attention to detail.
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a team, supporting colleagues as needed.
  • Honest and respectful, aligned with core values.
  • Organized, self-motivated, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Good standard of English for reading and understanding work instructions, notices, and verbal instructions.
  • GCSEs in Maths and English or equivalent qualifications.
  • Physical role requiring manual dexterity.
  • Participation in weekend working rotas.
  • Own transport due to the rural location
