Key Responsibilities

Traffic Control & Guidance
- Direct vehicles (HGVs, cranes, forklifts) using standardised BS 7121 hand signals.
- Manage traffic flow in confined spaces (site entrances, loading bays, public highways).
- Operate stop/go boards for Chapter 8 highway works.
Safety Enforcement
- Implement site-specific traffic management plans (TMPs) and risk assessments.
- Enforce speed limits (<10mph), exclusion zones, and one-way systems.
- Monitor blind spots for plant operators (e.g., excavators, telehandlers).
Communication & Coordination
- Use two-way radios to alert drivers/pedestrians of hazards.
- Conduct vehicle inductions for new site entrants.
- Liaise with slingers, crane ops, and site managers.
Emergency Response
- Halt operations immediately for unsafe acts (e.g., unauthorised pedestrian access).
- Assist in incident reporting (RIDDOR if applicable).
Documentation
- Complete daily logbooks (vehicle movements, near misses).
- Verify operator credentials (LOLER certs, CPCS cards).
