Key Responsibilities

  1. Traffic Control & Guidance

    • Direct vehicles (HGVs, cranes, forklifts) using standardised BS 7121 hand signals.

    • Manage traffic flow in confined spaces (site entrances, loading bays, public highways).

    • Operate stop/go boards for Chapter 8 highway works.

  2. Safety Enforcement

    • Implement site-specific traffic management plans (TMPs) and risk assessments.

    • Enforce speed limits (<10mph), exclusion zones, and one-way systems.

    • Monitor blind spots for plant operators (e.g., excavators, telehandlers).

  3. Communication & Coordination

    • Use two-way radios to alert drivers/pedestrians of hazards.

    • Conduct vehicle inductions for new site entrants.

    • Liaise with slingerscrane ops, and site managers.

  4. Emergency Response

    • Halt operations immediately for unsafe acts (e.g., unauthorised pedestrian access).

    • Assist in incident reporting (RIDDOR if applicable).

  5. Documentation

    • Complete daily logbooks (vehicle movements, near misses).

    • Verify operator credentials (LOLER certs, CPCS cards).
