Overview


Our client is one of the largest and fastest growing environmental consultancies in the world. From their large network of UK offices, their award-winning team of Water Engineering & Flood Risk professionals, lead projects across a range of activities including river & coastal defence, surface water management, sustainable urban drainage design and flood alleviation schemes.

Their hard work has culminated in the award of the “Better Rivers” framework by United Utilities, within which they will lead the design and project management of numerous schemes to improve our rivers across the Region.

As a result, they are seeking passionate and ambitious Senior & Principal Civil Engineers to join their Flood Risk & Water Engineering teams in Manchester, Preston, Leeds and Cumbria. In additional to the Better Rivers framework, you would also have the chance to be involved with a broad spectrum of projects across the water sector including flood alleviation schemes (FAS) for local authorities and the MOD; surface water separation schemes for water utility providers; natural flood risk management and Sustainable Urban Drainage solutions for several high-profile housing developers.

You will lead projects both technically and as a project manager. You will instruct, supervise, and mentor junior staff in the design and management of schemes. You work with clients and all project stakeholders to ensure delivery of projects to time and cost, whilst being supported by the senior technical leadership team throughout the whole delivery process.

About the role

You will support the technical delivery of projects through their full life-cyle. You will instruct, super-vise and mentor junior staff in the design and management of schemes and work with clients to ensure delivery of projects to time and cost, and to help manage change. You will be supported by the senior technical leadership team throughout the delivery of your projects.

Individual projects will range in size from £10k commissions up to £100m schemes covering flood risk projects for defence, transport, local government, utility, infrastructure, commercial, industrial and residential development. You will work independently and proactively on technical aspects from a project’s inception, determining client briefs, to the delivery and close out of projects in accordance with best practice.

About you

Suitable candidates should be able to demonstrate:

  • A UK accredited degree (either BSc, BEng or MEng) in a relevant subject.
  • Chartered status with the ICE or CIWEM would be preferred or working towards.
  • Experience in the delivery and leading flood risk and/or surface water separation projects from so-lution development, optioneering and design in line with the relevant guidance.
  • Experience in working of leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects efficiently and ef-fectively, such as with hydraulic modellers, engineers and environmental consultants.
  • Experience or an interest in developing Natural Flood Management solutions.
  • A good knowledge of the Multi-coloured Manual for flood risk economic appraisal.
  • An understanding and experience in working with the NPPF.
  • Experience in IT systems such as ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Civils 3D and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate with clients, contrac-tors, other consultants (at all levels) and statutory authorities.
  • Suitability for UK security clearance.
