The Company

A superb opportunity has arisen for an experienced, operationally focused General Manager to make a significant contribution to the development and growth of this well-known and highly respected business. Our client is one of the UK and Ireland’s foremost transport, distribution, warehousing and logistics companies, a successful and ambitious subsidiary of a major £850m Group, providing multi-site transport, distribution and warehousing solutions across the UK and Ireland. With an on-going strategic growth programme in play, a talented GM is required to play a lead role in the development and growth of their distribution and warehousing business.

The Role

Reporting to the Transport Group MD, and as part of the SLT, your key focus will be as follows:-

  • Full strategic, operational and P&L leadership across the business, achieving all results metrics in line with Group expectations
  • Lead, develop and coach an experienced, high performing team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and performance excellence
  • Initiate, drive and execute a strategic and operational plan for growth across sites in the UK and Ireland
  • Manage, monitor and achieve key internal performance metrics - revenue, margin, OTIF, staff resourcing, fleet utilisation etc
  • Ensure full compliance with all regulatory standards, driving best practice around health and safety, quality assurance and environmental
  • Manage financial performance including budgeting and forecasting with a strong commercial focus
  • Develop positive senior level relationships with key colleagues, stakeholders, industry partners and major customers
  • Collaborate with the Group’s commercial and financial teams to support operational efficiency, business growth and profitability

About You

We are looking for an outstanding individual, with an impressive pedigree of leadership and achievement in the transport, palletised distribution, logistics and warehousing arena. You may already be a GM, or an ambitious Operations Director/Manager looking for that exciting next career development step. Either way, your understanding of leading operations and compliance protocols in the high-volume distribution, warehousing and storage space will be second to none. With your exceptional leadership and team-building skills, you will have contributed significantly to influencing business performance, leading great teams, whilst ensuring revenue, margin and performance objectives are achieved. Your style will be proactive, "can-do" and motivational, with the enthusiasm and ambition to achieve great things for you, your team and the company.
