Mechanical Design Consultant
The building services engineering design team is a key service stream for the Manchester building consultancy department, with the vision to create a cohesive multidisciplinary consultancy service offering to clients.
The service stream traditionally advised local building saurveying teams throughout the country. They have invested and targeted growth within the design team during the last two years, foreseeing the expanding importance of the service within the construction industry, aligning with the business strategy.
The design team undertake consultancy duties ranging from feasibility studies to full detailed design, (RIBA Stages 1-7) working across a broad range of sectors within the private and public domain.
The team are passionate about engineering and business, with a focus on creating a collaborative and motivating working culture, as well as actively ensuring professional development. They pride themselves on the quality of their service to their clients and ability to form long term relationships.
Overview of the Role:
This role presents an exciting opportunity for a proactive Intermediate/Senior Mechanical Design Consultant.
The new team member will assist the wider team with the delivery of interesting projects, with diverse demands, whilst seeking to holistically continue their professional development and knowledge within the industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Delivery of Mechanical design consultancy duties, including; engineering feasibility studies, production of performance and full design information in line with RIBA stages, project quality monitoring (M&E), witness testing and commissioning. To carry out assigned duties efficiently and in accordance with processes and procedures.
- Production of technical specifications and equipment schedules.
- Attendance to project client and design team meetings.
- Attend site and carry out visual inspections of the Mechanical systems and prepare reports.
- Undertake computer aided design and use design calculation software.
- Engage with other work streams within business unit.
- Intrinsically incorporate or advise of energy efficiency and carbon reduction opportunities for projects.
- Be an integral part of the team working on the commercial and contractual performance of a project.
- To deliver value for money in all circumstances.
Personal Specification:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a positive proactive approach to the role, with the view to help build the M&E design offering.
- Engineering / building services / electrical professional qualification in design (HNC / Degree).
- Experience within an existing established building services consultancy.
- Belong to a professional / industry body (CIBSE / IMT / Engineering Council).
- Effective communicator with colleagues and Clients.
- Well organised, diligent, proactive, disciplined and commercially astute.
- Passionate about sustainable engineering and have experience with decarbonisation M&E projects.
- Able to work with teams and have the ability to prioritise workloads and deliver to deadlines.
