Principal Mechanical Engineer

Responsible to: Associate

Role Purpose:To work effectively as a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you must support and lead the team with the help of the local Associate.

You must be a technical, self-driven and confident individual with the ability to influence development and infrastructure master-planning, as well as being flexible and adaptable to operate within a rapidly changing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop quality designs - complete HVAC & PH package.
  • Manage your resource pool to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Use communication skills to write good reports.
  • Support and manage junior Engineers and Technicians.
  • Support other Senior Team Members in management of resources to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Undertake appropriate Continuing Professional Development and maintain CPD records in accordance with the requirements of the Institution of Building Services Engineers. Recognise the importance of clear communication with all members of the design and/or construction team regarding matters of safety and keep updated with information provided by leading Institutions such as the Institution of Building Services Engineers and others.
  • Lead on site investigations, complete inspections, identify issues and solve problems.
  • Develop technical specifications for projects delivered.
  • Develop technical equipment schedules for projects delivered.
  • Support our clients with tender appraisals.
  • Review Mechanical Design constraints.
  • Confidently communicate and collaborate with team members, clients, and other construction professionals about projects.
  • Represent the company at design team meetings with clients and other construction professionals.
  • Assist in recruitment, retention and management of staff and ensure successful outcomes for our clients/customers.
  • Display commercial acumen in your role, identifying change or opportunities on projects, or through discussion with clients, and follow up either directly or via the senior leadership team.
  • Contribute to business development activities, attendance at events, social media promotions, production of case studies and other marketing as required for the benefit of CCL.
  • Understand the principles of BREEAM and LEED sustainability accreditation schemes.
  • Where applicable, support the commissioning process on projects delivered to ensure systems are set up to reflect the design intent.

Software Capabilities:

  • Revit, AutoCAD and BIM Environment.
  • Navisworks.
  • MagiCAD.
  • IES Virtual Environment (Basic knowledge allowing reports to be reviewed).

Education Requirements:

  • Ideally Chartered Membership of the Institution of Building Services and/or the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
