Lighting / Daylight Consultant - East Midlands - £35,000 to £45,000 + Benefits

A UK-based Engineering and Environmental Consultancy is currently seeking a Lighting / Daylight Consultant to join their expanding team in the East Midlands. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced professional looking to apply their expertise in daylight, sunlight, and lighting impact assessments within a growing and supportive multidisciplinary environment.

Key Requirements:

  • Demonstrable experience in the delivery of lighting and daylight assessments.

  • In-depth knowledge of BRE guidelines and UK planning standards.

  • Proficient with lighting and daylight modelling software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Waldrum Tools).

  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Preferred Skills:

  • Working towards membership with the Institute of Lighting Professionals (ILP).

  • Experience working within a consultancy setting on commercial and residential planning applications.

  • Understanding of overshadowing, glare, and mitigation techniques in urban planning contexts.

  • Ability to liaise with planning authorities, clients, and third-party consultants.

Role Overview:You'll play a central role in the delivery of daylight, sunlight, overshadowing and lighting impact assessments for projects across the public and private sectors. From initial survey work through to modelling, analysis and report submission, you'll work closely with internal colleagues and external stakeholders to meet planning requirements and contribute to project success.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking site visits, visual inspections, and data collection.

  • Creating and analysing 3D daylight and lighting models.

  • Writing high-quality, planning-compliant technical reports.

  • Providing expert advice and design input to clients and design teams.

  • Managing workload across multiple concurrent projects.

This is a full-time, office-based role located in the East Midlands, with some flexibility for in-person and hybrid working depending on project needs. The position offers a competitive salary (£35,000-£45,000), private medical insurance, pension scheme, 25 days' holiday (plus birthday off), and structured career development.
