JOB DESCRIPTION

A Technical Support Engineer with previous EWI and design experience to facilitate the specification design stage through to the construction process. To support the external sales team and approved contractor network.

High levels of customer focus within a fast paced and competitive marketplace.

Responsibility for dealing with daily incoming inquiries for product, technical and estimating support to relevant sales managers and regions.

Ranging from specification and estimating advice to complex and involved project construction detailing and correspondence at design stage; through to eventual support at tender stage.

Production of creative and compliant CAD details, U-Values, specifications (checking and production), and management of the technical and pricing package for the specific project.

Client facing duties including attending project design meetings, pre-start site meetings with main contractors, architects and sub-contractors, etc as and when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Good understanding of traditional and modern construction methods, construction detailing and the contractual processes of the industry.

Minimum of 5 years within the building façades or other relevant construction field. Be confident in reading and understanding architectural/construction drawings and the ability to act upon information supplied to form the basis of the specification pack.

Knowledge of bills of quantities and other tender documentation.

Knowledge and understanding of the relevant Building Regulations and other relevant legislation requirements to assist with advice to the customer with the ability to be comfortable communicating with construction industry professionals from architects to contractors alike.

Minimum qualification of a relevant Bachelor degree within Engineering, Construction or other related discipline.

Conversant with AutoCAD, programmes along with general computer literacy

A commitment to quality, service and customer technical and pricing support

• Sound technical knowledge of Soltherm systems and building technology

• Good understanding of general construction practices

• Awareness of relevant construction and product related regulations Commercial Knowledge

• Sound commercial awareness particularly in relation to EWI systems being offered by Soltherm

Interpersonal Skills:

• The ability to communicate at all levels and work both as part of a team and under own initiative

• Professional approach to the role appropriate to representing a premium building products business

Communication Skills

• The ability and confidence to communicate on a professional level in several different mediums and on various levels

Product Knowledge:

• Thorough in-depth knowledge of all walling and applications and performance as appropriate

• Good knowledge of other products and systems offered by Soltherm

• Appropriate knowledge of application techniques

• Knowledge of competitors’ products and systems

• Understanding of relative strengths and weaknesses of competitors’ products v. our own

• Up-to-date knowledge of all legislative requirements, in particular Building Regulations, BBA Approvals, BDA Kiwa Approvals & British Standards

Main Duties/Workload:

• Manage incoming technical enquiries

• Deep understanding and implementation of PAS2030/2035 guidelines

• Advise on technical specifications to customers on a daily basis

• Issue project drawings, specifications, calculations, etc to customers via communications with Sales Manager

• Manage along with relevant Sales Manager projects from specification stage through to quotation stage to eventual handover at on site stage to contracts manager; on-site technical assistance and query resolution will be required as and when needed

• Manage of technical elements of project files

• Attend design meetings if required for major projects and as and when requested by Sales Manager

• Wherever possible oversee whole process of specification and design

Areas of specific individual focus:

• Upkeep and continual development of CAD Standard details for ALL facade systems and management of issuing and recording processes of detailing work

• Regular Engagement with Technical, Sales and Customer service departments

• Major involvement in specification production and management for large scale and complex projects
